Seasonal learning activities for children at Rowans Nursery

Diwali Rangowli Patterns

November was a month of seasonal learning activities for children brimming with learning, excitement, and colourful celebrations here at Rowans Nursery!

Our little adventurers explored themes of remembrance, safety, and light, celebrating events like Remembrance Day, Bonfire Night, and Diwali. Each activity was designed to spark creativity, encourage reflection, and help the children learn about these important themes.

Remembrance Day: Honouring Our Heroes

Poppy Creations:

The children created their own poppies using paper and paints, learning the story of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance. The activity encouraged them to think about courage and kindness in their own lives. They took great pride in their creations, and the poppies were displayed around the nursery, creating a touching tribute that everyone could appreciate.

Story Time and Discussions:

Through age-appropriate stories, we talked about bravery and sacrifice through conversations that helped our little ones understand these important concepts in a simple, heartfelt way. The children were very engaged, asking questions and sharing their own thoughts about what it means to be brave. It was truly inspiring to see their empathy and understanding grow through these discussions.

Bonfire Night: Exploring Light & Safety

Firework Art:

Our young artists had a blast using paints, glitter, and toilet rolls to create firework scenes. They experimented with colours and textures to recreate the magic of fireworks in the night sky. The children worked together, sharing ideas and learning from one another, which helped build a wonderful sense of teamwork. The finished artwork was full of bright colours and energy, perfectly capturing the excitement of Bonfire Night.

Fire Safety Chat:

We also spoke about fire safety, ensuring that even our littlest learners understood how to stay safe and enjoy the event responsibly. The children showed great interest and asked thoughtful questions about fire safety and fireworks. We even practiced a fire safety drill, helping the children understand what to do in an emergency. This hands-on approach helped reinforce the importance of staying safe while still having fun.

Diwali: The Festival Of Lights

Rangoli Creations:

Using coloured rice, our children designed beautiful Rangoli patterns. It was a brilliant opportunity to talk about symmetry, patterns, and the importance of welcoming light and prosperity into our homes. The children were fascinated by the intricate designs and enjoyed experimenting with different colours and shapes. We also spoke about how these patterns are used to bring good luck, which the children found very exciting. They were proud to show off their Rangoli art to their friends and families.

Clay Diva Bowls:

The highlight for many was crafting Diva lamps from clay. Each child decorated their lamp, adding their own unique touch before taking them home as a reminder of Diwali’s message of hope and light. The children loved shaping the clay, and it was a fantastic sensory experience that allowed them to get creative. Once the lamps were painted and dried, we lit them together in a safe setting, creating a beautiful moment of light that the children found magical. We also talked about how Diwali is celebrated around the world, which helped broaden their understanding of different cultures.

November has truly been a month of seasonal learning activities for children, filled with meaningful learning, creativity, and fun. We’re proud of our little ones for embracing new experiences and deepening their understanding of different cultures and traditions.

Christmas Is Coming

Stay tuned as we get ready for an exciting December full of festive activities, including our much-anticipated Nativity Play, a joyful Christmas Party, and our Christmas Fête!

Nativity Play: A Special Performance

This year, our Nativity Play promises to be a heartwarming event where the children will get a chance to dress up and tell the story of Christmas. Rehearsals are already underway, and the children are excitedly preparing their lines and practicing their songs. The Nativity Play is a wonderful way for them to build confidence, work together, and understand the meaning behind the Christmas story. We can’t wait to see their creativity shine on stage!

Christmas Party: Celebrating the Festive Spirit

Our Christmas Party will be filled with fun, laughter, and festive cheer! The children will enjoy games, music, and a special visit from Santa Claus, who will be bringing along some surprises. There will be festive snacks, and we’ll encourage everyone to wear their best Christmas jumpers for the occasion. This party is all about celebrating the joy of the season and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Christmas Fête: A Community Celebration

The Christmas Fête will be an event for the whole community, featuring stalls, games, and festive treats. It’s a fantastic opportunity for families to come together, enjoy some seasonal activities, and support our nursery. We’ll have a raffle, craft stalls, and plenty of festive fun for everyone.
